Current Project: Updating a Raven Guard Army for 40k

Image
Raven Guard are the new hotness because they have fantastic chapter tactics in 8th edition. Personally I’ve been playing Raven Guard since they were not this awesome. I turned the Assault on Black Reach army box into the start of a Raven Guard army back near the beginning of 5th edition. So, you could say I’ve played Raven Guard since before they were cool. How hipster of me. Why Raven Guard? Admittedly, I'm not a big 40k guy. I like the game and the miniatures, but Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar are my hobby and gaming jam. I have some minis for Dark Eldar, Word Bearers, and, of course, Raven Guard. I've tried playing all three of them at least once this edition, and I think I may have won one game. I don't play enough, and make pretty bad lists for fluff reasons. Because I don't play much and don't really know the game like I do Age of Sigmar, I'm hoping restarting my 40k hobby with Raven Guard will bring back my passion for the Grim Dark. Also, I th...

My Angry Trees

Angry Tree Beginnings While not my first fantasy army, Sylvaneth are my first army made for Age of Sigmar. I started them because I loved the treelord model, and because they were a faction that wasn't Stormcast. The  initial Stormcast models were cool, but I thought they were a bit boring to play. In 2016, the full Sylvaneth Battletome was released, and I was extremely happy I had chosen that faction. New Drycha, Kurnoth Hunters, faction spells, I was in love. I began working on the Sylvaneth in earnest, choosing Winterleaf as my Wargrove because I ...

Beginnings and Endings

This has been a long time coming, but here I am - starting a blog about painting and gaming with miniatures. It seems fitting that this journey begins just as I’m finishing one: The completion of my Sylvaneth Army for the Age of Sigmar system: A Family photo of most of my Winterleaf Wargrove. It’s been four years in the making: I started assembling my Angry Trees not too long after the release of the First edition of Age of Sigmar (AoS). Four years and 3000 points later, it feels fantastic to have a fully painted army. So fantastic, in fact, that I want to share that joy with everyone, because playing with painting miniatures is so much more fun than grey plastic or bare metal, or whatever our miniatures are made from (hopefully not lead).  That’s why I’m here: to share my hobby and hopefully encourage you to pick up your paint brushes and get some color on your models as I continue to stay motivated to work on my projects. Over the next several weeks, I’ll be shar...
