My Angry Trees
Angry Tree Beginnings
While not my first fantasy army, Sylvaneth are my first army made for Age of Sigmar. I started them because I loved the treelord model, and because they were a faction that wasn't Stormcast. The initial Stormcast models were cool, but I thought they were a bit boring to play. I had access to a Wood Elves army box from 8th edition with three tree lords, 36 dryads, and a Branchwraith and went with that, thinking that would be pretty much be my entire army.I also acquired six Wyldwoods and their accompanying trees from a Games shop that closed down and was liquidating the terrain for their gaming tables. I figured that I was set, and didn’t expect the faction to be expanded upon.
Oh, how wrong I was. In 2016, the full Sylvaneth Battletome was released, and I was extremely happy I had chosen that faction. New Drycha, Kurnoth Hunters, faction spells, I was in love. I began working on the Sylvaneth in earnest, choosing Winterleaf as my Wargrove because I loved idea of devastated, bitter, and angry trees that hate Chaos with all that they are. Hence, I affectionately call them my “Angry Trees.”

The Current Army
As for collecting the army, I basically added a good mix of units, getting a Start Collecting Box, and adding Kurnoth and Tree Revenants to the mix. At this point, I own all the characters, and a good mix of troops to run a well balanced and competitive list. I don't have any Spite Revenants, but they're on my future projects list.
My current painted collection includes:

- Alarielle, the Everqueen
- Drycha Hamadreth
- Spirit of Durthu
- Treelord Ancient
- Branchwych
- Branchwraith
- 50 Dryads
- 6 Kurnoth Hunters with bows
- 3 Kurnoth Hunters with Scythes
- Treelord
- 10 Tree Revenants
Up until the announcement of Looncurse from Games Workshop, I thought I was mostly done collecting the army. I have a 4th treelord kit that I plan to magnetize, and another 20 dryads still on sprue. I also thought I'd likely add some more Tree Revenants, Melee Kurnoth Hunters, and some Spite Revenants to my collection. No rush, just things I'd add here and there as I felt like purchasing and painting them.
Looncurse and the following announcement of what is coming for the Sylvaneth has me giddy. First, Looncurse has everything I was planning to add to my collection plus a character that fills what I thought was a major gap in the Sylvaneth army - until the Arch Revenant there was no smaller level melee/support character. Second, the upcoming endless spells, new woods, and new book look amazing. I want it all. Except the dice. I wish words could describe how much I hate most of the recent dice to come out of Games Workshop. I'm looking at you, Gloomspite Gitz...
Dice aside, it's Angry Tree Christmas. I can't wait until my FLGS gets my copy of Looncurse from their distributor, and hope the shipping issues keeping the new Sylvaneth stuff from coming is ironed out soon. Expect to see plenty of hobby features here as I get my hands on the new models. It's going to be a fantastic summer of Warhammer!
